Band Camp is fast Approaching

Band Camp is just around the corner. This year we plan to change things up a bit and put some fun back into band camp. We will be decorating the cafeteria again (a tradition that we got away from a couple of years ago) as well as putting in some new activities for the kids. Our goal this season is to bring some of the fun back to the band program and bring the family environment back. So our kids enjoy the program and will continue to come back.

Added Items needed for Band Camp this year

This year we will be adding many new activities to Band Camp. First we will be bringing back the section Camp Sites. This is an activity we stopped doing a couple of years back that the students really enjoyed, because it gave them a place to call there own and relax during breaks at band camp. So this year we will be putting the campsites back. You can start decorating your campsite as early as July 18 and they will be judged on that Wed of band camp. Some items you can put in your campsite, awnings or tarps, small pools, lawn chairs, fans, as long as it doesn't destroy the property you can put it up. The only limitation is you cannot put up any enclosed tents we must be able to see through the campsite and in all structures you put up (you can put up screened walled tents, they just cannot have any solid walls). The camps will be decorated in whatever theme the section leaders come up with for your camp. Your section leader will let you know what the theme is. Campsites will be the following, Percussion, Guard, clarinets, Flutes, Sax’s, Low Brass, High Brass, Band Parents, Staff. We hope you enjoy the return of this. Camps will remain up until after the performance on Friday.

Also we will be adding a number of additional activities this year. Make sure you have a change of cloths and shoes each day as you will get dirty and wet doing these activities. Activities will be done by ranks, and the winning rank each day will get prizes or to eat first that day.

Vanguard Proudly announces the 1st annual Corydon Central Vanguard vs. North Harrison Marching Cougars Softball game / picnic

July 17th will be the first annual Corydon Central Vanguard vs. North Harrison Marching Cougars softball game / picnic. It will be at Corydon Central High School at the Softball field. Both North Harrison and Corydon Band Parents and staff will join together to cook and have a good day together before the competition season begins.

Come and have some good spirited fun with fellow banders, boosters, and staffs from both ends of the county. A cookout will follow, Band boosters will provide hotdogs/ buns/ plates and fixins. Come with your bats, and gloves and ready to play. Bring some lawn chairs and enjoy the night of fun and friendship. All those that want to play will get a chance to play.

Here is what the members need to bring. Seniors will bring bottled water, Juniors will bring a 12 pack of canned soda, Sophomores will bring a bag of chips, Freshman and 8th graders will bring cookies.

I hope to see as many of you from both bands here. I think this will be fun and a new tradition that we can build on.

Vanguard Family Picnic

Saturday July 10th

On Saturday July 10th we will be having the 2nd annual Vanguard Family Picnic. Starting at 6:00pm at Sharon Mathis house. The Vanguard will provide meat that we will be grilling. We need you to bring a side and drinks, and a lawn chair if you would like to sit down. The purpose of this event is to get both the kids and parents together and begin to build that family atmosphere that is so important to the band and its success. There will be games, good conversation and who knows you may even make a new friend or two. I hope to see you all there.

Directions to Sharon’s house are as follows.

Take Hwy 135 south (past Hayswood) to Heilelberg Rd. Turn right and continue 2.5 miles. (Two story gray house on the right #2610 on the stone mailbox).
