Band Parents: A few updates from the band parent meeting last night. *Take down for lights for Light – up will be Jan 9, and 10 we need everybody there to get this done in a weekend. * Winter Drumline schedules are now posted on the web site. The performance and events are posted on the Schedule page with links to the practice schedule. There is also vital information for winter drumline posted on the drumline page with links to the order forms for shirts and homework sheets. The drumline will not be hosting a contest this year at CCHS, so to make up for the money they are going to lose from not having the contest, they will have their annual Sweetheart’s dinner on Feb 6. They will also host the 1st annual mini golf scramble on March 7 at Golf Shores indoor course. The mini scramble will be open to all and you are encouraged to have teams such as Sunday school teams, clubs and so forth. We will need a few volunteers to help run this but not nearly as many as we would need to run their contest. We will also need hole sponsors and possibly one good Corp. sponsor for this event. The Corp Sponsorship would be $500 and the event would have their name on it. The hole sponsors we will run a bit different since it is just about time to send out for our annual golf scramble (at the country club) so to sponsor a hole for just the mini scramble will be $50, to sponsor a hole for the big scramble is $100, but if they want to sponsor a hole for both events it will be $125. If you want to sponsor a hole or no of a business or somebody that wants to sponsor a hole please let me know and we will get the forms to them. I will also post entry forms for teams in the near future. The hole sponsor forms are on the web site as well as team entry forms are on the web site. Even though the drumline is part of the Vanguard and funded by the band parents they still will be doing fund raising to help cover at least some of the cost of the program. This is the only way we can afford to continue to run all the programs that we run. So if you are available to help please do so, or if you have other ways to help raise money for these programs let us know, we will try almost anything at least once. We will also be trying to sell the mats from the previous years to help raise money as the drumline has to get a new mat and props this year, since there old ones are completely worn out. So we need a few parents to come and help get the old mats out and spread them out to take pictures of them so we can list them up for sale. They will then need to be re folded and put back away.
Winter Guard – The winter guard also had a meeting last night, I am encouraged at the number of new girls I saw there and new parents. We will hopefully have a schedule for the winter guard soon. I have posted what we know on the Vanguard Schedule page, and this information will also be posted on the Guard page of the website. Guard Rm. moving – We will be moving the Guard out of the big room in the back of the band room and giving them their own room. We will be moving them to the small band parent rm. Beside Mr. Stewarts office soon. I plan on doing this during one or two of the Winter Guard practices, we also need guard parents to come in during that time and help by taking pictures of all the flags we have and doing an inventory of them as we will be selling some of the flags we no longer need to help raise money for the Guard. Even though the guard is part of the Vanguard and funded by the band parents they still will be doing fund raising to help cover at least some of the cost of the program. This is the only way we can afford to continue to run all the programs that we run. So if you are available to help please do so, or if you have other ways to help raise money for these programs let us know, we will try almost anything at least once. Full Band – The full bands schedule has also been posted on the web site on the Vanguard Schedule page. This will only show events and performances to see the practice schedule for the different groups and Solo’s & Ensembles practice times you will need to go to the link posted above for the appropriate month. The annual Golf Scramble is coming up in May and we will need to start organizing for it soon. Hole sponsor forms are available on the web site. Solo’s and Ensembles is fast approaching. If your child is in High School or Junior High and is taking a Solo or an Ensemble the money for the sign up is due now. It was actually due awhile ago but I also know how our kids sometimes get information to us. So if you haven’t yet paid for Solo’s & Ensembles we need to get those fees in as soon as we can. Ben Hayes Trophy - We will also be getting with Zimmerman’s Art Glass about the new sweepstakes trophy after Christmas (by request of Zimmerman’s) to get a design in place for the new Sweepstakes trophy for Ben Hayes. Phone Tree - We will also be looking into bringing back the phone tree as we have had a lot of communication problems lately. So we need about 8 volunteers to work this, each one would have approx 10 phone calls to make when we activate it, and be able to relay the information correctly to the parents and back to us as to responses. If you are interested please let me know. Vanguard Alumni - For those of you that are alumni of the Vanguard we will be having an alumni band play with the Vanguard on Jan 7, and Feb 19 with the Vanguard Pep Band. We have a lot of fun with this event. If you would like to play and do not have an instrument anymore, please let me know as soon as possible, Conrad’s will let us use the instruments we need but I need to get a list to them as soon as I can, so if you let me know when and what instrument you need I will get you on the list. I have also put this information out to the 200 or so alumni that we currently have following the band on the new facebook account, so we are hoping for a great turn out. It is a good chance to catch up with people you may not have seen in a long time. I think that’s about it for now. If you have any questions please let me know. The next band parent meeting is Jan 11, at 6:30 pm |
